According to Breitbart, it looks like Romney's defeat, might have been due to a flop of a technology called Orca. This technology was to be used to let pollwatchers record voter names as they checked in. This would give the campaign information in real-time. However, there were problems with the app or the backup system. That was only in Colorado.
In Virginia, the disorganization was evident. They had apparently relied on Orca to do all the heavy lifting, and in the meantime, Obama's minions got ready and staked their claim. It went on like that for the rest of the states.
Hopefully, a lesson can be learned from all of this, and that is while technology can be a wonderful thing, it can always fail. Always have a backup plan.
